The Photo-Alava portal, created by the Álava Archives to expand the photographic heritage of the Provincial Council, already has 100,000 historical photos available on the Internet, as reported by the provincial organization.

Photo-Araba is a constantly growing cultural project, since its inauguration on June 10 with 50,000 photos. After less than six months, the number has doubled, and it is the website of the Basque Autonomous Community with the most historical photos for free consultation and download.

Ana del Val, deputy for Culture and Sports of the Araba Region, highlighted how important it is to be able to publicly consult the archive’s photo collections in the most accessible way possible, “both to make their great value known to all citizens, and to guarantee that they will be preserved for the future”. Thus, the portal has received 195,063 inquiries so far.

Along with the increase in the number of images, Photo-Araba has added a new virtual exhibition about the promotion of Deportivo Alaves to the 1st division in 1954. So far, there have been five thematic exhibitions made by experts, which analyze the transformation of Araba and the territory’s society in the last 150 years through the photographs of the portal.

Photo-Arab will continue to increase its content in the coming months, and will also enter the Euskarian, Hispana and Europeana portals. “In this way, the heritage of Álava will be among the world’s cultural deposits”, emphasized Del Val.
