New Delhi: After the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections, three Congress leaders, including the vice president of the Delhi Congress, have joined the AAP. Party state vice-president Ali Mehdi, councilors Sabila Begum and Nazia Khatun have joined AAP. Both were elected Congress councilors in the municipal corporation elections held two days ago.

All three were given AAP membership at a special press conference held in Delhi. AAP leader and MLA Durgesh Pathak said in a press conference that the three people joined the party after seeing the work excellence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and we invite BJP and Congress to work for the progress of Delhi.

“We decided to join AAP after seeing the development work done by Kejriwal. Development should be brought to our country as well. The AAP party under the leadership of Kejriwal is trying hard to develop the national capital. Ali Mehdi said after joining AAP.

Sabila Begum was elected as Congress councilor from Ward 243 in Mustafabad and Nazia Khatun from Ward 245 in Brajpooji. Both cannot be disqualified as the Anti-defection Act is not applicable in municipal corporation elections.

AAP took control of Delhi Municipal Corporation ending 15 years of BJP rule. AAP had captured 134 of the 250 wards. BJP managed to win only 104 seats. Congress won all nine seats. With two of them switching parties, the Congress’s strength has reduced to seven.
