The corona is still here: Prime Minister Yair Lapid was vaccinated this morning (Sunday) for the corona virus, following the vaccination he received for the flu, as part of preparations for winter. In his words, Lapid called on the public to get vaccinated against the viruses, in order to reduce the morbidity in the country.

“I call on the citizens of Israel, and especially the populations at risk – to get vaccinated as soon as possible in light of the increase in the incidence of the corona viruses and the flu,” said Lapid. “That’s the only way we’ll get through this winter with ease and health, while protecting our loved ones – father and mother, grandfather and grandmother.”

As you may recall, last week Lapid conducted a situation assessment regarding the state of the corona disease, in light of the increase in the number of patients in Israel. As part of the discussion, the Corona appointee at the Ministry of Health, Prof. Salman Zarka, gave an overview of the preparation and readiness of the health system in the face of a combined morbidity of influenza and Corona, this against the background of the fact that in recent weeks there has been an increasing trend in the number of Corona patients, and also in the number of those hospitalized.

During the debate, outgoing Minister of Health Nitzan Horvitz expressed his great appreciation and gratitude to the professionals and pointed out that together with them the outgoing government led two and a half waves while maximally protecting public health in addition to routine life and a functioning economy. Horowitz also noted that the preparation of the health care system for winter is already underway, and it is being done in a professional and correct manner.

“The government’s excellent assessments place us at this time in a very good position and highly prepared for any outbreak,” said Lapid at the end of the discussion. “At the same time, the corona virus is still part of the reality in the world and in Israel, and it is important to continue focusing on the population at risk, informing and continuing tests and vaccinations. The activities of the Israel Defense Forces and the Alon headquarters will continue as planned until the end of January.”
