A teacher in Florida USA was fired after disrupting the prayer of Muslim students while they were praying, accusing them of “magic”
A Florida teacher has been fired after she was caught disturbing Muslim students as they prayed and accused them of practicing magic and was seen kicking one of them who was praying at school.
In a Tik Tok video that has gone viral since it was posted last Thursday and garnered more than a million likes, three students at “Franklin Academy” are seen, NBC reported.
While the students are praying, the teacher – who has not been identified by name – can be heard saying, “Wait a minute, this is my office and you’re all doing all this magic.” She is then seen blowing a whistle to try to get their attention, and walks right past them, and is even seen kicking one of a student’s hands.
The students ignore the teacher and continue to pray while someone else jumps in to respond and say: “They are praying.” Muslims perform five daily prayers that require their heads to be bowed several times without interruption.” The video sparked outrage on social media and has been viewed over 3 million times.
“Why are they in my office?” the teacher is heard asking, and someone else answers, “They are praying.” It is unclear at this time why the students prayed in the teacher’s office or if they had permission to do so.
In response, the school released a statement: “A very disturbing Tik Tok video has been shared with our leadership team. The video appears to show a teacher interrupting students during a moment of prayer. Upon receipt of the video, school management immediately began investigating the situation.” The school stated that it “does not tolerate discriminatory behavior”, it also said: “While we do not discuss personnel matters, we can share with you that the teacher in question is no longer a member of the Franklin Academy staff,” the statement said.
