Rare symptoms have emerged in people suffering from Covid-19, and They are not nice. This is because the virus seems to be reaching areas of the body it doesn’t normally touch, including fingers, toes, and tongue, causing them to swell.
A study of more than 60,000 people who tested positive for Covid-19 and reported their symptoms found that a small percentage experienced ringing in the ears, eye pain, rashes, red bumps on the face or lips, hair loss and unusual joint pain.
Another larger investigation, of more than 600,000 people in Britain, found that a fraction of people with coronavirus also developed purple sores and blisters on their feet and numbness throughout the body, among other illnesses.
Doctors aren’t sure why only some people develop these unusual symptoms. In the opinion of Dr. Kelly Gebo, an infectious disease specialist at Johns Hopkins Medicine, “it is not clear if these symptoms are caused directly by the virus or by the body’s response to it.”
“Covid Toes”
What has already been dubbed as “Covid toes”which means fingers swell and hurt, and scientists aren’t exactly sure why.
However, doctors want it to be known that if you have these symptoms, you are not alone and usually they disappear by themselves.
The virus appears to accumulate in tissue far from the lungs and airways, triggering an aggressive immune response that results in a symptom that looks a lot like chilblains.
Although the condition can affect all fingers, it appears to occur mainly between the toes. It can occur at any age, but the young seem to be more prone to developing it.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the swelling will usually start as a red discoloration on one or more fingers or toes, but it will soon turn a dark purple color; although you can start directly in purple.
Normally, discoloration and swelling is all that will happen, but blistering, pain, pus under the skin, and itching have also been reported in affected fingers.
