A catalog of 150 films from the last century arrives in streaming, including masterpieces, Italian comedies and horrors

Rai Com lands on Amazon Prime. The subsidiary of the Rai Group, which enhances and distributes the rights to the public broadcaster’s contents in Italy and around the world, has just reached an agreement with the Amazon streaming platform, reserved for Prime subscribers. The agreement concerns a new channel, accessible by navigating on the platform, entitled “Novecento”: a catalog of 150 films from the last century for which Rai Com manages the rights belonging to third-party producers.

Rai Com, a company led by the managing director Angelo Teodoli is the largest distributor of Italian products in the world: a link between production and product distribution, with a catalog of two thousand audiovisual products.

“Novecento” will make available to the public in streaming international masterpieces, such as “La Ciociara”, “Scenes from a wedding», «The Seventh Seal”«Strawberry Place”«Jules and Jim», «Salon Kitty», «The Brancaleone army», titles of the Italian comedy, such as the various «Fantozzi», «Totò quits or doubles», “Too strong», «Bread, love and fantasy»«Flatfoot the African» and horror classics, such as «Phenomena» e
“Darkness». The new channel will be available free of charge for the first week, then a fee of 4.99 euros per month will start. The package is destined to be renewed monthly with the addition of a dozen new titles. «It is a completely new experiment for us – explains Angelo Teodoli -. We haven’t made any projections of how much the new channel will do. We know that Rai’s previous initiative with the Prime Video streaming platform had good results. Our break even it is set at around 30,000 season tickets».

Rai Com’s initiative is part of the diversification strategy which the parent company Rai is also implementing, through Rai Play which distributes Rai and third-party products. The attempt is to take full advantage of the enormous cultural heritage that the public broadcaster has accumulated over the years, making it available to an audience now accustomed to frequenting digital platforms and choosing personalized programming. “Our target is the over 45s – says Teodoli – but we would be happy to attract a younger audience who want to know the masterpieces of the history of Italian and international cinema”.
