A corruption scandal broke out around Eva Kaili, Vice President in the European Parliament.

The ousted Vice-President of the European Parliament, Eva Kaili, started her professional career as an architecture student. At just 20, she was elected to the City Council of Thessaloniki, where Kaili was born. From 2004 to 2007 she presented the news for the TV channel Mega.
She is said to have had no close contact or friendships with her colleagues when she was a newsreader. The German medium “Focus” writes: “It had no relation to the ordinary everyday life of the citizens. Their world was made up of leaders and the rich.” She was regularly spotted in Greek nightclubs with Greek-Russian billionaire Ivan Savvidis.
Youngest Pasok MPs in Parliament
At the age of 29, Kaili was elected to the Greek Parliament. She was the youngest MP ever sent to parliament by the Greek social democratic party Pasok. the NZZ writes that she caused a stir there. In 2011 she asked Prime Minister Georgios Papandreou to resign because of his proposal to hold a referendum on austerity. Some men couldn’t handle the performance and Kaili faced sexist abuse.
Eva Kaili has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014. Since the beginning of 2022 she has been one of the 14 Vice-Presidents of Parliament.

The “Focus” reports that the 44-year-old politician likes to be photographed at luxurious destinations, which she also shows on her Instagram account. For example on the Greek island of Mykonos, where a weekend in a hotel often costs the monthly wages of a Greek worker. The German news portal continues to write that the politician bought a 169 square meter condominium in Athens’ luxurious suburb of Psychiko. Kaili gave a purchase price of the equivalent of 265,000 francs in the transparency register “Pothen Esches” (“where did you get it from”), which is mandatory for politicians, journalists and civil servants. According to the tax office, the actual value is around 700,000 francs.
