Parshat Veishev is the ninth parshat of the week in the book of Genesis. In Parshat Vishv, the story of the sale of Joseph and his events in Potiphar’s house and other events from the life of the patriarchs and the sons of Jacob. In this case, the events that will lead to the descent of Jacob and his sons to Egypt, and at a later stage to the enslavement of the people of Israel there, begin to unfold. However, each of the chapters in the case is an independent story with different characters and it takes place in a different geographical location. According to the accepted division into chapters, this parashat opens at the beginning of chapter 37 and ends at the end of chapter M. The parashat includes 4 whole chapters.

Parshat Vishav is usually read on the Shabbat before Hanukkah. In years when Hanukkah has two Shabbats, Parshat Vishav is read on the first Shabbat. In years when the first candle of Hanukkah falls on a Friday, the Parsha is read on Monday of Hanukkah. (Wikipedia).
