Berlin: A giant aquarium exploded at the Radisson Blu Hotel in the German capital Berlin on Friday. It was an aquadam that housed more than 1,500 tropical marine fishes and contained more than one million liters of water. The explosion left the hotel and nearby streets under water.

At 15.85 meters tall, the Aquadam is the world’s largest free-standing cylindrical aquarium. Two people were injured in the explosion as glass shards were thrown. It is reported that most of the more than 100 different species of fish have died.

Lifts were built for visitors two years ago. Temperatures in freezing Berlin plunged to minus six degrees overnight. It is estimated that the cause of the accident is a crack in the aquarium.
