The number of people with flu in the Netherlands is increasing again, the RIVM reports. The freezing cold days have arrived again and with that the number of people visiting the doctor because of flu-like complaints is also increasing.
“There is no epidemic yet,” a RIVM spokesman told NU.nl. “But we do see that the number of people with the flu is increasing.”
Last week, 30 out of 100,000 people visited their GP because of flu complaints. According to the RIVM, 14 percent of patients with a flu-like illness or another acute respiratory infection tested positive for the flu virus. Several other viruses were also found, such as the RS virus.
The number of people with the flu is expected to increase further. “If people get together a lot again at Christmas, the flu will also appear more often,” says the spokesperson.
From October 3, another flu jab was distributed. The effect of this will be known around February next year, according to RIVM.
The number of people with corona has also increased. The GGD reports an increase of 7 percent. In nursing homes, the number of residents with a positive corona test increased by 51 percent. The number of hospitalizations of people with COVID-19 increased by 16 percent from the previous week.
