Indian-American entrepreneur killed in house fire in New York

An Indian-American entrepreneur was killed after a fire broke out inside her Dix Hills cottage in New York’s Long Island. Tanya Bathija (32) was killed. According to news agency PTI, the incident took place on December 14.

The Suffolk County Police Department ruled out the possibility of criminal conspiracy in the incident. Suffolk Police Department Lt. Kevin Baier said Tanya Batija lived in a cottage behind her parents’ home on Carl’s Straight Path. Bathija’s father, Gobind Bathija, who woke up for his routine morning exercise, saw the fire and immediately informed the police.

Bathija is an entrepreneur and community leader. Bathija recently opened a Dunkin’ Donuts outlet in Bellport, Long Island. She entered the field after completing her MBA in Accounting and Finance.
