The Minister of Transport and Meteorology, Valery Ramonjavelo, announced a rehabilitation plan for Madagascar Airlines which will require an investment of $100 million. The objective is to make the national airline independent after its rehabilitation, which represents a crucial step for the Malagasy airline sector, he explained.
Madagascar Airlines is currently in debt, including Air Madagascar’s liabilities, but has already received financial support of $20 million from the international bank. A discussion along these lines has been underway for several weeks. The government member also mentioned that negotiations are underway with other partners, notably the Middle East, with the guarantee that these funds will not come from public funds.
This plan will be spread over a period of three years and has the main objective of restoring the financial viability and autonomy of the airline. Valery Ramonjavelo underlined the strategic importance of Madagascar Airlines in the country’s economy and was optimistic about a successful recovery.
This initiative is part of a global vision aimed at strengthening the national air infrastructure and promoting the air transport sector in Madagascar, which will contribute to the economic development of the country. It should be remembered that because of its difficulties, Madagascar Airlines was forced to cancel its flights to France.
