A 17.2% increase in vehicle imports during 2022

The Division for Planning and Economy at the Tax Authority published today the data for the import of durable goods for the month of December 2022. The data shows that in December 2022 the import of private vehicles was recorded in the amount of 63,137 compared to 29,817 vehicles in December 2021 – an increase of 111.7%. Commercial vehicle imports amounted to 2,188 vehicles compared to 1,109 vehicles in December 2021 – an increase of 97.3%. The sharp increase in vehicle imports is explained by particularly high imports in December 2022 on the eve of updating the green taxation formula starting January 1, 2023 and the reduction of the purchase tax benefit on the import of electric vehicles.

In the months of January-December 2022, the import of passenger vehicles amounted to 306,087 compared to 261,064 in the same period last year – an increase of 17.2%. Imports of commercial vehicles decreased by 3% during this period and reached the volume of 12,052. The Tax Authority stated that the trend data indicate an increase in the import of passenger vehicles starting in May.

The total value of all imports in December 2022 amounted to 8.6 billion dollars – an increase of 7.3% compared to the value of imports in December 2021. In 2022, the value of imports increased by 18.3% compared to 2021. The Tax Authority stated that trend data indicates a decrease in imports.

Local production quantities of gasoline and diesel were found to increase by 5% and 12.5% ​​respectively in December 2022 compared to December 2021. Cumulatively since the beginning of the year, the amount of gasoline production decreased by 4.4% and the amount of diesel production increased by 4.7%.
