A 26-year-old man driving a VW Tiguan drove into the opposite lane and collided with an oncoming Volvo V50 driven by his fellow policeman.
From the impact, the Volvo crashed into the barriers – the body of the officer trapped in the car was freed by the firefighters, who handed him over to the ambulance brigade.
The officer was taken to the hospital in serious condition, but the medics could not save him.
The policeman was driving the Volvo off-duty, not in uniform.
The driver of the VW Tiguan was also injured in the accident, who is most likely the culprit of the accident.
The driver of the third car, a Ford Transit, also hit the barriers to avoid the collision. Judging from the initial police reports, he managed to avoid injuries.
The cause of the fatal accident is currently under investigation.
