A 7-year-old girl has died from multiple stab wounds believed to have been inflicted by her 13-year-old sister. The incident took place in the eastern German city of Leipzig.
On Friday evening, police responded to a report at an apartment building. A seriously injured 7-year-old girl was found, German media reported.
The child was taken to hospital, where he died from his severe injuries.
Police and prosecutors believe the 13-year-old sister was responsible for the injuries that led to her death. She called the emergency services.
The 13-year-old child is currently receiving psychological help in a specialized clinic.
At the time of the incident, the children were home alone and their parents were absent.
Police are investigating what happened. The motive for the crime is not yet clear, writes bTV.
“Witnesses will be questioned. The girl will certainly be questioned as well, but here the focus is on the treatment of the 13-year-old girl, who is currently in a specialized clinic. And especially against the background of the specific tragedy, the subject is considered very delicately and therefore it will take some time,” said Josephine Sader from the Leipzig police.
Police said an autopsy has been scheduled for the body, but did not comment on when it would be performed or when the results would be ready.
