A 76-million-year-old dinosaur skeleton is up for auction – and that’s the price

by time news

A rare and unusual archeological find is up for auction these days, and it is nothing less than a huge and completely real dinosaur skeleton. According to the New York auction house, Sotheby’s, it is a skeleton of Gorgosaurus belonging to the T-rex family, who lived on Earth about 76 million years ago.

The Grogosaurus was a sharp predator that lived in what is today considered the western United States and Canada, in the Late Cretaceous period. Just for comparison, it preceded the existence of its relative Tyrannosaurus rex by 10 million years.

The impressive skeleton for sale these days was first discovered in 2018 near Judith in Montana, USA. It is about three meters high and 6.5 meters wide, and it is the only skeleton in the museum that is available for sale for private ownership.

“In my career I have had the privilege of handling the sale of many unusual objects, but few have the ability to arouse wonder and illustrate an animal we have only in our imagination,” said Cassandra Hutton, head of Sotheby’s Global Culture and Science Department. To qualify for the amazing skeleton, you will have to shell out a minimum of $ 5 million, as the auction company estimates $ 8 million as the final price.
