In Chalatenango, on October 10, the authorities confirmed the discovery of a half-buried body in the canton of San José Las Mesitas, which is classified as a homicide. The victim, a 76-year-old woman, was reported missing on October 8.
As a result of the investigations, three relatives of the victim were arrested: Sonia Elizabeth Ibanez de Mejía, her daughter, and José Alexander Mejía Ibáñez together with a minor, the two grandchildren of the woman. According to investigations, the crime occurred after an argument related to land that the accused claimed from the victim.
Detainees are being held on charges of aggravated murder, kidnapping and disappearance.
