A 9% drop in second-quarter shipments in year-on-year terms

by time news

Market research firm Canalys has released preliminary details about the state of the phones market, from the manufacturers’ point of view, regarding the second quarter of the year. The company did not release full data, but noted that this quarter saw a 9% drop in phone shipments in year-on-year terms.

This is a slight moderation compared to the year-on-year decline of 11% in the first quarter of 2022, but it does not change the general trend in the last dozen months: despite a slight increase in the fourth quarter of 2021 during the holidays, the market is declining.

In fact, in general, the market is currently back to the level of the second quarter of 2020, which even then was relatively low after the eruption of the corona.

But more significant is the fact that the rising recession, inflation, and uncertainty in the market are causing the consumer public to divert more and more resources from the middle market, which was and remains meanwhile the main sales market of manufacturers, not the low to entry market due to limited budgets.

In terms of market disconnect, Samsung’s share stands at 21% compared to 18% in the same quarter last year, Apple in second place with 17% compared to 14% mainly due to very strong sales of the iPhone 13 family, followed by the top three Chinese who suffered Double percentages in sales according to Canalis compared to last year: Xiaomi with 14% vs. 17%, Oppo despite the addition of OnePlus 10% instead of 11%, while Vivo with 9% instead of 10% %.

It should be noted, however, that Samsung as well as Apple have suffered a decline compared to the first quarter of 2022, while Omi is starting to recover slightly after three quarters of declining sales. Vivo is also showing a slight sign of recovery, while Opo’s sales are pretty flat.
