The brutal and unexpected attack by Hamas terrorists on Israel has shaken many people and affected many families. After all, even Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) pointed out during his visit to Israel this week that Hamas was doing crazy things and Israelis were being targeted terrorists who “don’t hesitate to cut and burn children in front of their parents.”

Only 9 days old little boy Kai was very lucky in this. Terrorists also came to their house in Kibbutz Nirim on October 7 with a clear goal – to murder and kidnap Israelis.

“When they came to our house, we heard a loud bang. They started destroying everything, throwing things and shouting in Arabic,” said Kai’s dad Uriel for Bild.

So they hid in the shelter and held the door handle with all their strength, to prevent terrorists from getting inside. Could not be locked. Nevertheless, the family managed to hold the door and the terrorists left.

However, they set the house on fire – they wanted to lure the hidden people out with the fire so that they could kidnap or shoot them. Just like their neighbors. “We did everything we could to not panic,” mom Aimee now remembers the moments when a big blow woke her son up, he started crying and she tried to nurse him to stop.

Morning wake-up call to a nightmare

The attack woke the young family at 6:30 am. Sirens sounded everywhere, but something was different than usual. There were far more rockets than ever before. And later, the shooting started. Hamas began attacking the kibbutz.

“Around 8:00 a.m., our neighbors started writing in WhatsApp groups, saying that they heard gunshots and Arab screams outside the windows. We knew immediately: this is our worst nightmare,” Uriel describes.

When he saw the smoke that began to reach them through the crack under the door after the terrorists set fire to their house, he knew it was bad. Not because the flames could quickly reach the shelter, which was made of strong concrete. However, the family’s survival was also because more smoke was pouring into the room.

However, their shelter also had one window. “Every time we felt safer, we opened the window and breathed. Two breaths on the alternation. My wife and I picked up the baby and placed him on the windowsill.” frowns the Israeli father in make-up. Even Kai had to catch his breath. They risked being spotted by terrorists. “Or that he’ll die in our hands from smoke inhalation,” the family continues.

Englishman Russell Langer shared a picture of his cousin Aimee on Twitter, who also shared a link to a fundraiser to help relatives whose house was completely destroyed on the X social network.

They wanted to survive…

It took many hours for the army to liberate the kibbutz and drive out the terrorists. And the young family, including Aimee’s mother, knew that if they left the shelter too soon, they would be shot.

The smoke didn’t stop, it got harder and harder to breathe. “There were several moments when we thought we might not survive (…) We looked into each other’s eyes and said: I love you. But we really tried not to panic and not letting all those feelings happen. We systematically thought about what we had to do to survive,” admits Uriel.

The fight outside the window

Relief came with the arrival of the Israeli army at their home. “Around 2:00 p.m., we finally heard and saw our soldiers waving through the window. They set up right in front of our house,” the family told the German Bild. It hasn’t been won yet. At that moment, another firefight broke out with Hamas terrorists right outside their house. “I think the fight was literally outside our window. When we tried to jump out, the fight was still going on. There were still terrorists,” Aimee and Uriel described.

Unlike many of their neighbors who are dead, missing, or kidnapped, they were lucky. “One day I will tell Kai that he gave us the strength to survive, he gave us the strength to fight,” adds Daddy Uriel.

The families of people kidnapped three weeks ago by gunmen from the Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip are demanding a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other members of the war cabinet. They are increasingly worried about the lives of their loved ones in connection with the intensified strikes of the Israeli army against Gaza. Netanyahu said today, according to Time, that he will meet with the families of the hostages today. Shortly before that, Defense Minister Joav Galant announced that he was planning a meeting with the families on Sunday.

The Gaza Strip, home to over two million people in an area smaller than Prague, was heavily bombarded by the Israeli army on Friday evening, according to news agencies, the heaviest since the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel. During the night, the army also carried out further ground raids into this area and is still fighting Hamas radicals there. Defense Minister Galant said today that the army has entered the next phase of the war and that this operation will last until further notice. According to a BBC reporter, the Gaza Strip is now in total chaos due to the outage of telecommunications networks, which has lasted since Friday evening.

“This night was the worst of all nights. It was an endless night against the backdrop of a major army operation in the Gaza Strip and complete uncertainty about the fate of the abductees who are being held there and are also being subjected to heavy bombardment.” the group representing the families of the abductees said in a statement. “Anxiety, frustration and most of all huge anger that no one from the War Cabinet bothered to meet the families of the abductees to explain one thing to them – whether the ground operation threatens the safety of the 229 hostages in Gaza,” it says further in the statement.

At a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Istanbul, Turkish President Erdogan called Israel an occupier and reiterated that Hamas is not a terrorist organization.

Due to a large-scale protest, Central Station in New York had to be closed on Friday evening local time (tonight today SELČ), where people in the station building demanded a truce between Israel and Hamas. According to Reuters, this demonstration was organized by a Jewish group. “We refuse to let our pain be used to justify attacks against other people,” said one of the participants of the event. He was alluding to the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, which claimed 1,400 victims, including children, on the Israeli side, according to Israeli statistics. Retaliatory Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have claimed the lives of more than 7,700 Palestinians, including about 3,500 children, according to reports from Hamas-controlled authorities today.
