Srabanti Chatterjee is a popular actress of Indian Bengali cinema. Yesterday (August 13) was his birthday. This actress completed 37 years on this day. Her next movie is ‘Devi Chaudhurani’. It is directed by Subhrajit Mitra. On a special day, the maker penned the ‘alleged’ lover Sravanti.
Referring to his friendship with Srabanti, Subhrajit wrote in an Indian media, ‘I am not in town on Gintu’s (Srabanti’s nickname) birthday. Right now I am in Delhi. My first conversation with him was about ten years ago. We meet in a work source. Then with time we became friends. On his birthday, many memories are coming to his mind.’
Explaining Srabanti’s looks and acting skills, Subhrajit writes, ‘Gintu is a very strong actress. According to me, she has not yet been explored in Bengali industry in that way. There are very few actresses as beautiful as her without makeup in our industry. She acted in the title role of the movie ‘Devi Chaudhurani’ directed by me. Gintu’s look matches perfectly with Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s description. More importantly, there is a Bengaliness to her look, which was one of the stipulations of this character. I chose him in this movie from that idea. Before the shooting, several leading actresses of the industry contacted me to play this role. Frankly speaking, the thought that I choose Gintu has given in this movie and more than that.’
Impressed by Srabanti’s devotion, Subhrajit writes, ‘Gintu’s devotion to work inspires me. Gintu toiled for more than a year to become Devi Chaudhurani. From learning to wield a sword to training in action—it took everything. I was a part of his journey from the beginning. It can be said that I had become Bhabani reader outside the screen.’
Srabanti was injured several times while shooting. Remembering that, Subhrajit wrote, ‘Gintu was injured several times during the shooting. He acted with blood and not sweat. While shooting the arrow, the finger was cut by the shaft of the bow. Bandage on finger. In that situation, Gintu gave one shot after another. In the crawling scene, the knees are injured by sharp pebbles! Still gave the shot. As a director, what more can I demand from him!’
Subhrajit also cast Srabanti in his next movie. Informing this news, the director wrote, “The way I saw Gintu while doing ‘Devi Chaudhurani’ has strengthened my faith in him. I naturally chose Gintu for my next movie ‘Kaalmrigaya’. When I return to the city, I will start dubbing for the movie ‘Devi Chaudhurani’ with her.”
