Understanding and intelligent manipulation of the fascinating and complex mechanisms by which the immune system defends us from external and internal enemies is leading to the development of effective immunotherapies against cancer. Thanks to them, cures of this disease have been achieved that only a few years ago would have been considered miraculous. However, much of the knowledge acquired about the functioning of the immune system has not yet been used to try to generate new immunotherapy strategies. For example, it is known that the most important immune cells for eliminating tumor cells are the so-called natural killer lymphocytes, or NK, for its acronym in English (Natural Killer). Immunologists have discovered that the most important cytokine for the stimulation of the killing activity of NK cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes is the so-called interleukin-15 (IL-15).
