a bill for better support

by time news

The text in favor of better recognition of the suffering linked to miscarriages will be discussed this Wednesday, March 8 in the National Assembly. The bill brought by the deputy Sandrine Josso, the vice-president of the delegation for women’s rights, is in line with that tabled, without follow-up, by the former deputy Paula Forteza last year.

Natural terminations of pregnancy concern nearly 200,000 women each year in France. “We often imagine that a woman who is one week pregnant will suffer less than a woman who is four months pregnant. But it’s not the time that makes the pain, insists Sandrine Josso. With this text, the MP MoDem wants to improve the care of people who have experienced a miscarriage, in particular occurring before the 22 weeks from which the follow-up is already more important. Women and their partners may suffer from episodes of stress, anxiety, depression after the event. Psychological disorders and pain insufficiently recognized by the family and medical staff.

Concretely, the bill involves the creation of a health course, orchestrated by the regional health agencies (ARS). Sandrine Josso talks about “global support”both medically and psychologically.

Train and inform

A first component would be the training of caregivers, midwives, radiologists and sonographers. Christine Krautter, vice-president of the Agapa listening association, sees this as a necessity: “They are sometimes out of step. For them, it is a frequent, almost banal medical act. They do not always measure the impact. » However, they are the ones who are able to announce the news and collect the first reactions. Nathalie Lancelin-Huin is a psychologist and works with couples affected by perinatal bereavement. “This law should also integrate interns and general practitioners, who are also in contact with these women and men”, she regrets. This implies that no woman should leave a hospital destitute and without knowing how to be supported. “They must leave with a repertoire of resources, and not leave feeling alone and illegitimate”, hopes the psychologist.

A follow-up over time

Second part included in the bill: the women and men concerned will be able to benefit from the “Mon Parcours psy” system. Set up in 2022 to combat the psychological effects of the health crisis, it offers eight free sessions with an approved psychologist. Midwives could also provide this support.

The measure announced by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne last week in the magazineElle will also be in the law. This is to create sick leave without a day off in the event of a miscarriage. This bill is “a big step for all women” in the eyes of the vice-president of Agapa.
