A bizarre case in Texas: convicted of murder and acquitted – then accused of murdering another

by time news

An unusual case in Texas: 46-year-old Liddle Grant, a resident of Houston, was charged last weekend with murder, after allegedly shooting a car driver, following a physical confrontation that took place between them on the road, following a minor car accident. According to the details of the incident, Grant was driving his white Lexus, and was hit by a Toyota that passed him. After that, according to the police statement, he got out of his vehicle and fired five bullets at 33-year-old Edwin Arbelo.

The event does not sound particularly unusual, when considering the criminal past of Grant, who was previously convicted of the murder of a 28-year-old man outside a bar in Houston, and was behind bars for 7 years. This, after six eyewitnesses testified against him in the trial. However, in May 2021, Grant was acquitted in a Texas court, after an appeal was filed, and after the DNA found on the victim’s fingernails did not match his own.

Now, Grant is again suspected of murder, and the bond set for his release is $1 million. The organization that helped Grant appeal to court the last time he was convicted, stated that “We are saddened to hear about the tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family. As this is an ongoing investigation, we cannot comment on the details of the incident. We stand by Grant’s previous acquittal, which was granted by The Court of Criminal Appeals in Texas”.
