Police arrested a resident of the central region today (Saturday) after beating another fan outside the Sami Ofer Stadium before the start of the game between Hapoel Haifa and Maccabi Haifa in the 24th round of the Premier League.

During a brawl that began tonight before the derby game that will take place at the Sami Ofer Stadium in Haifa, a resident of Tel Aviv attacked a fan of the rival team when the victim was not injured. Meanwhile, Haifa police officers in cooperation with YSM fighters arrested the suspect, a 27-year-old Tel Aviv resident suspected of committing the act, for questioning at the city police station.

Depending on the development of the investigation, the police will decide whether to apply tomorrow to extend the suspect’s detention in the Magistrate’s Court in Haifa. The police said: “We take violence and bullying of all kinds on the sports fields very seriously and we will continue to take action against anyone who improves public order and the law and tries to harm police officers, sporting events and anywhere else.”
