A Brics delegation in the Central African Republic to try to forge economic partnerships

This organization of so-called emerging countries comprising Russia, China, India, South Africa and Brazil arrived on Sunday April 9 for a week.

A dozen economic operators, mainly Russian and Indian, made the trip. Several working sessions are planned with President Touadéra himself, as well as various heads of ministerial departments. A visit which could end with the signing of several framework cooperation agreements in the fields of energy, hydrocarbons, agriculture and mining, according to a communication from the delegation. The latter is led by the president of the BRICS alliance, Larissa Zelentsova, and Ahoua Don Mello, its representative for West and Central Africa.

This is the second visit by representatives of the body in less than six months to Bangui. The CAR is facing a “degradation” of its public finances linked in particular to the suspension of external budgetary aid for the second consecutive year. The State is therefore seeking to forge new partnerships and find new opportunities.

An opening also desired on the side of the Brics alliance which has increased travel in recent months on the continent, presenting itself as an alternative partner.
