A building collapsed on the night of Saturday April 8 to Sunday April 9 in the center of Marseille.
“A building has collapsed, the emergency services are on the spot, the cause is not determined”, two police officials told Agence France-Presse (AFP). The firefighters could not provide any information at this stage.
The streets around this building, in the La Plaine district, are cordoned off. The mayor of the city, Benoît Payan, asked on Twitter to avoid the area, specifying that the building was located rue de Tivoli, in the 5e arrondissement.

“It was huge as an explosion”told AFP Gilles, a man who preferred to keep his last name quiet, but who lives in a street perpendicular to that of the collapsed building.
The collapse in rue d’Aubagne of the two buildings, in the heart of the popular district of Noailles, another district in the center of Marseille, in November 2018 had killed eight people. These buildings were in a serious state of unsanitary conditions.
