A Bulgarian driver received a fine by mail for speeding from Germany without ever having driven his car in this country. This was reported by the victim himself in the Facebook group “Where is the traffic police camera today?”.

“I received a letter from Germany with a fine for speeding without ever going there or giving my car. In the letter there is a picture of a part of a car, a windshield with a man behind the wheel. In a separate picture it is just numbers, matching letters and numbers, but a different view and without the Bulgarian flag on the side. Someone with a similar problem and advice,” wrote the victim Vladimir Pavlov on the social network.

According to many of the commenters under the post, the number of the car from the “congratulation” from Germany is not Bulgarian, but Ukrainian, which are very similar to our license plates.

With a new post on Facebook, the victim specifies what measures he took to avoid paying the fine.

“By email, I disputed the identification of the car from the photo as mine. I sent a photo of my car with a front number plate and advised them to request information from the Bulgarian authorities as to whether my car had left the country in the last year. By email, I also notified the GDNP about the case, requesting to raise the issue of the identification of the numbers in the European Union by the traffic cameras, by sending them a copy of the German letter. The letter to me was sent by the “Globi” service to the administration of a small town in Germany, not by the Traffic Police, Pavlov explains.
