A 28-year-old Bulgarian citizen was placed under house arrest for alleged participation in a fraudulent scheme that damaged a Roman store of the French retail chain “Leroy Merlin” by 1.2 million euros. According to the Italian media, it is a person with the initials D.G. Together with the Italian Simone Carmosino, against whom there is a ban on leaving the municipality of Fiumicino, they had to take care of the security and safety in the store selling expensive materials and tools for the home. Instead, for 2 years, the employees of the security company Hsh security service were the main characters in a fraud and theft scheme from the site in the “Da Vinci” shopping center to the Rome airport of the same name. About twenty employees involved in a hundred thefts between January 2022 and August 2023 are being investigated. The investigation is coordinated by the Civitavecchia Prosecutor’s Office and started in March 2023.

The participants resold air conditioners, water heaters, drills, lawn mowers and all kinds of other tools on the black market at low prices. They built something like a parallel market. After the merchandise was stolen, the employees resold it, with their customers coming to get it during store hours, alongside regular customers, so as not to arouse suspicion. Among the buyers were small craftsmen, craftsmen, private customers who thought they were buying products at a discount. In 2022, fraudsters managed to get 800,000 euros worth of goods out of the store.

The management of the store discovered the theft after realizing during an audit that the materials were present with their code in the register, but in reality they were not. The footage from the video cameras was reviewed, the phones were also controlled. Thus, in a short time, the scheme was revealed.
