Bulgaria made one of its most successful performances in the history of the European competition for young scientists, which was held in Katowice, Poland. This was announced by the press center of BNO. Alexandra Petkova from the National Science and Mathematics High School “Acad. Lyubomir Chakalov” won first prize at the competition. She also received the prize at the Stockholm Youth Scientific Seminar, which means she will attend the Nobel Week events.

The NPMG student also won the Regeneron ISEF award, where she will participate next May in Columbus, USA. Her project presents an experimental and theoretical study of the angles of waves left by moving vessels.
Delyan Boychev from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of SU “St. Kliment Ohridski” received the award of the European Space Agency and will visit its laboratories in the coming months. His project deals with the highly topical topic of recognizing synthetic methods generated by machine learning algorithms.
Our third participant, Stefan Gaidarov from “Acad. Kiril Popov” Mathematical High School, also performed very well, although he was left without a prize in the extremely strong competition of the European competition.
Apart from being one of the most successfully performing countries in recent years, Bulgaria also provides one of the special prizes of the competition. In the National Seminar on Coding Theory “Acad. Stefan Dodunekov”, the jury decided to participate Artyom Kovtun from Ukraine. His development considers random processes in graphs.
The European Competition for Young Scientists (EUCYS) is one of the most elite scientific competitions for students in the world and is funded under the EU Framework Program for Research and Innovation “Horizon Europe”. Bulgaria has participated since 1997, as the students competing for the European honors, they first go through the National Competition “Young Talents”, organized by the Ministry of Education and Science. Sofia was the host in 2019. After Katowice, next year Riga will host.
