A bunch of dogs is a problem that everyone can face (photo) | Germany Information and Travel Tips | >

Kaiserslautern • In the German city of Kaiserslautern in Rhineland-Palatinate, about 100 thousand people live and there are about 4.5 thousand dogs of various breeds and sizes. According to local authorities, man’s best friends produce here almost 520 kilograms of excrement every day. At the same time, somewhere these very heaps of owners (or other persons responsible for walking the person) immediately clean up, and somewhere they leave them lying in the middle of lawns, on sidewalks, in parks and other places. No one has any complaints about dogs – it’s a natural thing, so Kaiserslautern decided to deal with this problem by contacting the owners (and other persons responsible for walking) directly.

Checkboxes for heaps

From June 21 to July 16, all Kaiserslauterners who wish will be able to take part in the action “Shit happens … but not in our beautiful city” – with these flags, which can be obtained from the municipal cleaning and maintenance company of the urban area. I saw a bunch – put the checkbox. The bunch will be removed, the flag will remain and will appeal to conscience and call on individual irresponsible dog breeders to comply with the rules for keeping animals.

You can receive flags individually, by a group, by a club or by an organization. In the application, you must indicate the number of required flags and the proposed territory in which, so to speak, public demonstration demining will be carried out. If there are too many people willing to check the boxes in a certain area, the campaign organizers will offer alternative options, since the cleaning service knows very well where something is wrong, it smells bad and looks unappetizing.

Fine – up to 250 euros

Mayor of the city Beate Kimmel took part in the presentation of the action this week. For clarity, heaps were even prepared in advance, which were photographed by representatives of the press from different angles, including fairly close-ups, but such too frank shots were not included in our selection. As noted by regional radio station RPR1, after the press conference in the fresh air, the visuals were removed appropriately.

In conclusion, we note that the fines for negligent dog owners for such violations in Kaiserslautern are up to 250 euros, but, as experience shows, the problem cannot be solved by fines alone. So that the dog owners themselves, if possible, would not find themselves in an uncomfortable situation if they forgot special bags for cleaning excrement, the number of boxes with free ones in the city was increased – to almost fifty.
