The Minister of Foreign Affairs called for the joint efforts of everyone in the responsible and sustainable ocean management at the Ninth Hour Ocean Conference in Athens, the capital of Greece. Hasan Mahmud.

In the press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (April 17) evening, the minister made the call at a high-level panel discussion of foreign ministers based on the theme of sustainable management of oceans on Wednesday morning local time, the concluding day of the conference that started on April 15.

Environmentalist Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that the sustainable management of the sea should be such that a balance is maintained between the socio-economic development of the people living on the coast and the preservation of the environment. Responsible and careful use of oceans and marine resources is absolutely necessary to sustain the Earth, the only home of humans and for future generations.

In his speech, the foreign minister also highlighted various initiatives taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to ensure sustainable sea management and fair use of marine resources for socio-economic development of the country.

Hasan Mahmud reminded that various countries pledged about 10 billion US dollars to conserve biodiversity outside the national boundaries of the countries of the world, to develop the overall ecosystem and to develop green shipping or environmentally friendly shipping systems. It has not been implemented yet.

The foreign ministers of the conference host countries Greece, Costa Rica, Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe participated in the panel discussion.
