State Minister for Women and Child Affairs Simin Hossain Rimi has urged to highlight the importance and significance of the Declaration of Independence among the new generation.
He said that the declaration of independence is the basis of the current constitution. The Declaration of Independence accelerated the Great War of Liberation.
He said this in his speech as the chief guest at a discussion meeting titled ‘Declaration of Independence: Cosmology of the Constitution of Independent Bangladesh’ on the occasion of the 53rd anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in the seminar hall of the Engineers Institution in Ramna, capital, on Thursday (April 18) afternoon. Writer and journalist Shahriar Kabir presided over the meeting.
The State Minister said, ‘The first government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, formed through the declaration of independence on April 10, 1971, was sworn in on April 17. Many local and foreign journalists were present in that informal, sincere, loving, calm and intimate atmosphere. There were thousands of local people as witnesses. The national anthem was performed by the boys of Bhaberpara on a harmonium brought from the house of a traditionalist. A guard of honor was provided by members of the local Ansar and police. It was led by Jhenaidah SDPO Mahbubuddin Ahmed. In this way, the non-communal Bangladesh of Bangandhu’s dream was built by the united efforts of people of all religions. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was made the President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He is still in the hands of Pakistanis. Hence, Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam took over as Acting President. On the other hand, Tajuddin Ahmed got the responsibility of the Prime Minister. At the same time, the cabinet members were introduced. Professor Yusuf Ali read the declaration. Acting President and Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed addressed the international media and thousands of people. Tajuddin Ahmad named Baidyanathala as ‘Mujibnagar’.
The discussion meeting was also addressed by the commander of sub-sector number 8 of the liberation war and the guard of honor of the oath ceremony of the Mujibnagar government, the former SP brave freedom fighter Mahbub Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram, the president of the South Asian People’s Assembly against fundamentalism and communalism, the brave freedom fighter Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, 1971: Genocide-torture. Historian Prof. Muntasir Mamun, President of Archive and Museum Trust and Co-General Secretary of Khatak-Dalal Nirmul Committee, Prof. Dr. Shahidsanta. Nuzhat Chowdhury. The meeting was chaired by Nirmul Committee’s IT Cell President Shahidsantan Natyajan Asif Munir.
