Men and women are inherent in dignity and worth, and they are born with equal dignity and rights – His Holiness Urbancic

Christopher Francis: The Vatican

When the dignity of women is not respected, the entire society will be hurt, said Archbishop Janusz Urbanczyk, on October 3, at a meeting organized by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OCSE), Warsaw, on the Human Dimension.

Archbishop Urbanczyk, Permanent Visitor of the Church at OCSE, said that legislation and court-based programs should be implemented to eliminate violence against women and girls.

Men and women are born with dignity and worth, and they are born with equal dignity and rights, His Excellency Urbanczyk said, adding that we must not forget that their equal and inalienable rights are the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.

Violence against women and girls

Addressing the fifth annual conference organized by OCSE in Poland, His Excellency Mr. Urbanczyk said that although the participating countries have taken many measures to eliminate violence against women and girls, the physical, gender and psychological violence they face is a shame for our societies and this situation cannot be ignored. He also asked not to.

He has said that this violence is at its peak in situations where wars are taking place like Ukraine, and violence is also taking place in normal life situations.

Violations of rights in the workplace, sexual harassment, sexually suggestive literature, prostitution, forced family planning, abortion devices and sex-selective abortions are some of the violence, Archbishop Urbancicz said.

Respect for the dignity of women

Affirming that when the natural dignity of women and girls is not respected or protected, every individual and society as a whole will be hurt, His Excellency Urbancicz said that action plans should be implemented through legislation and the judiciary to eliminate injustices against women.
