(ANSA) – COSENZA, 23 AUG – There is a first case of a patient with West Nile fever in the Cosenza area. It is an 85-year-old man whose area of residence has not been disclosed to avoid unnecessary alarmism and not create panic among the population. The man is hospitalized in the Infectious Diseases department of the Annunziata hospital and is not thought to be in danger of life.
“At the moment there is no epidemiological risk – said Martino Rizzo, health director of the Provincial Health Authority of Cosenza – we are monitoring the situation and the species that can transmit the virus are under control.
We are implementing all the measures foreseen – added Rizzo – to control the proliferation of mosquitoes.
I exclude major risks, because it is a delimited area, located around the patient’s home, where they are carrying out a series of prevention activities. We are working with the municipalities involved to avoid possible proliferation and in this area disinfestation activities are underway with organized teams that can intervene for any emergency”.
