An accident occurred at a zoo in Uzbekistan where a zookeeper entered a lion enclosure and was eaten.

According to foreign media such as India’s Hindustan Times on the 3rd (local time), at around 5 a.m. on December 17th last year, at a zoo in Parkent, Uzbekistan, zookeeper Iryskulov (44) filmed a video to send to his girlfriend.

Iryskulov opened the lock on the lion’s cage, went in, and began filming. At this time, three lions sitting in the corner approached him growling, and he stepped back, looking startled and embarrassed.

He repeatedly called one of the lions’ name ‘Simba’ and said, “Simba, calm down.” Afterwards, when a lion came closer, he petted it, and the lion also licked it with its tongue, showing that they were familiar with each other.

However, two minutes after Iryskulov entered the cage, the lion started attacking him. He screamed and moaned in pain. He repeatedly shouted at the lion, “Calm down.”

The camera, which fell to the ground after being attacked by a lion, continued recording but stopped shortly after.

He was found four hours later by other zoo staff. At that time, little of Iryskulov’s body remained. According to media, the lions killed him and ate parts of his body.

The police and rescue team who responded to the report escaped through the door opened by Iryskulov, tranquilized two of the lions in the outer yard, and shot one.

Local authorities launched an investigation into the incident and inspected all animal cages.
