A circus with animals banned from the public by the town hall

Installed in the northern districts of Marseille until March 27, the Muller circus will not be able to open its doors. The city of Marseille, whose mayor Benoît Payan is opposed to the presence of circuses with animals in the Marseille city, issued a decree on Tuesday of “non-authorization to open to the public” of this circus, indicates the municipality in A press release.

A matter of security

The city justifies this decision “by virtue of the absence of sufficient rules on the security of the reception of the public”, and affirms that the circus was installed “on private land, without authorization”.

In this press release, the mayor recalls having “denounced on several occasions the practices of creeks exploiting exotic animals, qualified as “wild” to perform numbers”. The Muller circus is known in particular for starring the hippopotamus Jumbo, recently at the heart of a legal standoff with animal defense associations.
