A cleaning operation to “clean up” the Chambly basin.

by time news

About thirty divers and certified volunteers carried out a cleaning operation in the Chambly basin on Sunday morning.

The purpose of this cleaning operation is above all to “decontaminate the bay”, but also to make it “gradually usable”, explains the mayor of Chambly, Alexandra Labbé.

“We want to make sure we maintain this water quality,” she continues, noting that the Chambly basin is open for swimming.

Tires, carpets, cones, bed bases… a lot of waste has already been removed from the Chambly basin.

“People are still walking on water and it’s easier to throw a can in the water than down the drain,” said the organizer of the operation, Daniel Jourdain. We want to raise awareness about the environment and give water back to swimmers.”

The cleaning operation is also about raising awareness among the public about the environment and the importance of preserving water bodies. “This waste was not there in the end. You have to be careful and manage your waste in a good way,” says Mayor Alexandra Labbé.

The Historical Society of the Lordship of Chambly is also on site looking for old things, which may be “historical”, explains the vice-president, André Gousse.
