A member of the professional committee of the Ministry of Communications sent a poignant letter of resignation this morning (Tuesday), after last night the Minister of Communications called on the protesting reservists to “go to hell”.
Attorney Amir Heller, a member of the Financial Sanctions Office’s advisory committee for four and a half years, wrote that he is “sadly going to hell”, as someone who served in the Air Force’s rescue unit 669.
In his letter, Attorney Heller reads: “As a citizen and a parent, who holds the country and its citizens dear to his heart, I would like to plead, please retract these offensive statements, meet with the writers of the letters, listen to their hearts, to their sincere concerns, and do everything you and your colleagues in the government can to maintain the unity of the people and the strength the state”.
“Many of my team, other teams from the unit as well as members of the medical forces recently signed a letter expressing concerns and difficulties in volunteering for the reserves, insofar as the proposed legislation will undermine the basic anchors of democracy. A value statement, not from anarchists or refusers, but from citizens who have served the country for many years and are concerned about its future “.
“I would like to inform you that I am regretfully ‘going to hell’ and returning the appointment I received. Resignation is my small protest, and I am convinced that a suitable replacement will be found for me in a short time, however, on a personal level, I am not interested in continuing to volunteer for service in a government ministry that you are the head of,” concluded Heller.
Communications Minister Shlomo Karai responded: “I am happy that the civil service is being purged of those who support the refusals.
Refusal is not a value statement and those who support refusal are not worthy. In a very clear and unambiguous way, my statement was towards refusals. Any attempt to attribute a negative meaning to the dear reservists is a lie and political propaganda. Anyone who ties up his service in the reserves with his political views and gift one to the other, directly or indirectly, is stubborn and insolent. Refusal is a red line that must not be accepted or contained.”
