A company from Oleiros gives a holiday to the best research biologist

The Galician biotechnology company AllGenetics, based in the Oleiros council and specializing in genomics, awards a holiday in the Galician autonomous community, specifically at La Casa de la Granja, located in Granxa do Souto (Mera de Abaixo, Ortigueira), to the best researcher at the European Meeting of PhD Students in Evolutionary Biology that is held every year in a European city. This is the so-called AllGenetics-EMPSEB Award, which has been awarded since 2012.

The academic event is organized by pre-doctoral researchers and researchers from all over the continent come to do their doctorate in evolutionary biology. In 2023 the congress was held on the Isle of Cumbrae (Scotland).

Mexican researcher Samantha López Clinton, who is doing her PhD at the Swedish Museum of Natural History and Stockholm University on environmental monitoring through genomic techniques, is the winner of the AllGenetics-EMPSEB Award 2023. You can enjoy, with up to five friends , a week of vacation in Ortegal.

AllGenetics, a member of the Cluster Tecnolóxico Empresarial das Ciencias da Vida (Bioga), has sponsored EMPSEB since 2012. And her management team came up with the idea of ​​awarding a prize to the best doctoral student who participated in the congress. “We think that the reward could be a week of vacation in Galicia, to value our land,” explains Rosa García-Junco, head of Sales and Marketing at AllGenetics. “We didn’t have much hope that the idea would go ahead, but the congress organizers loved the idea and accepted without hesitation; twelve years later we continue to sponsor the congress and offer the AllGenetics-EMPSEB Award”.

The first winner was the German researcher Mareike Wurdack, who won the award thanks to her work on insect parasitism. She enjoyed the prize in Ortigueira with three other friends. Between Mareike Wurdack and Samantha López Clinton, nine other researchers from Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands and Belgium won the award and were able to get to know Galicia thanks to the AllGenetics initiative.
