A villa with household property, six beehives and 60 decares of dry grass and bushes were burned yesterday in a fire near the village of Draganica in the municipality of Varshets, BTA reported.

The fire was extinguished from 14:18 until late in the evening by fire brigade teams from Varshets, Montana and Berkovitsa. It is assumed that the cause of the ignition was human negligence when handling an open fire, which, in combination with the unusually warm weather for the season yesterday with temperatures above 30 degrees, led to the rapid growth of the fire, announced the police directorate in Montana.

Yesterday, three more fires in dry grass and bushes were extinguished in Montansko, and the day before – four fires in the field and one fire in a combine that caught fire during harvesting.

This year, the summer in the Montana region was dry and very hot, and during the months of July and August there were about 10 fires almost every day. They burned 2,488 acres of deciduous and coniferous forests and 117,000 acres of dry grasses and shrubs. Three firefighters were injured while extinguishing the fires, announced the director of the Regional Directorate “Fire Safety and Protection of the Population” in Montana, Commissioner Vencislav Raykov.
