A couple indicted for “barbarity”, after the death of a man they were sheltering in Drôme

A man and his partner were indicted on Sunday for “acts of torture and barbarity leading to the death” of a vulnerable man whom they were hosting at their home in Drôme, the Valence prosecutor’s office said.

The couple was placed in pre-trial detention, Valence prosecutor Laurent de Caigny told AFP, confirming information from the local daily. The Dauphiné Libéré.

A vulnerable man

The man and woman in their forties had been placed in police custody after the discovery, Friday at their home in the village of Grand-Serre (Drôme), of the body of a 53-year-old man, presenting several lesions, according to the parquet.

The forty-year-old who hosted this vulnerable man, placed under guardianship, admitted to having hit him, the same source said.

According to the autopsy, the deceased fifty-year-old had several impacts from rifle pellets, the shots of which were recognized by his host. The victim died following a lack of treatment, according to the prosecution.
