The Ganja State Philharmonic named after Fikret Amirov hosted a concert dedicated to the work of the prominent composer, People’s Artist of Azerbaijan, teacher, conductor Said Rustamov, the press service of the Philharmonic told Day.Az.
At the evening, accompanied by the Folk Instruments Ensemble under the direction of the artistic director, conductor Hayala Gahramanova performed by People’s Artist Sevinj IbragimovaHonored Cultural Worker Mehpara Jafarovahonored artists Mahir Mamedov, Tural Abdullaevsoloist Azer Verdiev, Fuad Ramazanov, Samira Gadzhieva, Zamina Mustafaeva, Khayal Aliyev, Rustam Jafarov. Said Rustamova’s works were presented – “Durna”, “Where are you”, “Don’t go”, “Doctor girl”, “Where are you”, “Isn’t it a poem”, “Waiting”, “In the name of the victim”, “Alagoz”, “I didn’t know”, ” You didn’t come”, “Good reading”.

Said Rustamov was born on May 12, 1907 in Iravan. Due to the atrocities of the Armenian Dashnaks in 1918, the family was forced to flee to Turkey. Soon the Rustamov family moved to Ganja, and then to Baku, where Said entered the teacher’s seminary. In 1924 he entered the music school in the department of folk musical instruments. His mugham and tar teacher was the famous tar player Mansur Mansurov, and according to theory, the great composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli, who was one of the founders of the music school.
Uzeyir Hajibeyli invited Said Rustamov to work as a teacher in the tara class even before he graduated from college. In 1926, S. Rustamov graduated from the teachers’ seminary and began working as a teacher at school No. 19. In 1932, Said Rustamov graduated from the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. In 1931, having created the first musical orchestra of folk instruments, Uzeyir Hajibeyli invited Said Rustamov to work as an accompanist. Said Rustamov worked on creating a repertoire for this creative group and created a number of compositions. His work is closely connected with Azerbaijani musical folklore. Widely using mugham, ashug music and folk songs in his work, he created a unique musical language. The song genre occupies a prominent place in his work. He wrote many lyrical and patriotic songs, the author of musical comedies “Besh Manatlyg Gelin”, “Durna”, “The Boss’s Wife”.
From 1935 to 1975 he worked as artistic director and chief conductor of the Folk Instruments Orchestra. In 1940-1943 he was the director and artistic director of the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic, in 1949-1953 he was the chairman of the board of the Union of Composers of the Azerbaijan SSR.
Said Rustam is the author of a number of teaching aids in the Azerbaijani language and folklore publications, translations of teaching aids into the Azerbaijani language. The composer owns the recording and arrangement of Azerbaijani mugams – Rast, Shur, Segah, Chargah, Bayati-Shiraz, Kurd Shahnaz, Eyrati, etc.
Died on June 10, 1983 in Baku. He was buried in the first Alley of Honor.
