Odell added: “We had to cancel a family vacation we were planning to go on, since we lost a lot of money following the mistake at the cafe.” A Starbucks spokesperson said that a check was sent to the customer as compensation for the mistake, but it was returned due to a typing error, and since then a new check has been sent which has been cashed.

In addition, the spokesperson accused Udel of being the one who entered the amount in the terminal during the payment process, which the customer denied claiming that the branch manager told him that the error was due to a malfunction in the electronic payment system.
