In recent years, the number of cyber attacks has increased drastically and mobile phone abuse is becoming more common, especially in the case of devices with company access. Recognizing the seriousness of the problem, Vodafone Hungary offers companies the Lookout cyber protection service, which can be used to protect against phishing attacks, saving companies from significant financial damage. We talked with Mátyas Dobó, Deputy CEO of Vodafone Hungary Corporate Services, about the domestic aspect of cybercrime, the operating principle of the protection system using artificial intelligence, and its potential.
On what basis did they think that there might be a demand for this in the Hungarian market – is cyber security such a burning problem for companies?
Our experience shows – and these are supported by the available domestic and international statistics – that while the cyber protection of desktop computers and laptops is almost self-evident, businesses pay much less attention to the protection of mobile phones, even though the number of abuses involving these devices is also increasing drastically. Vodafone sees the digital development of businesses as its mission, which is why we offer our customers the Lookout mobile cyber protection service, which can provide protection against network-, device-, application- and content-based risks threatening mobile devices on all iOS, Android and Chrome OS mobile devices, and also provides a solution for identifying and managing risks.
Is it possible to know approximately how many businesses are affected by the issue of phishing cyber security – either worldwide or in our country?
Whether it is an attack on a company or an individual, the number of cybercrimes is constantly increasing globally. In 2022, approximately 5.5 billion such attacks were administered worldwide. The costs of damage caused by attacks rose to 4.35 million dollars in 2022 – more than one and a half billion forints – causing significant losses to the companies involved.1 The mentioned statistics are global data, but domestic experience shows that the number of cybercrimes is also increasing significantly in Hungary, especially attacks targeting mobile phones.
How should you imagine using Lookout, such as what needs to be configured before it works?
Lookout is a software specifically developed for mobile devices, with a web interface and an easily transparent mobile application, for which support in Hungarian is also available for users.
The software uses artificial intelligence to analyze telemetry data from a global network of more than 200 million devices and more than 120 million applications to detect and prevent attacks.
What happens when Lookout detects a threat?
Once anomalous behavior is identified, Lookout will prevent it while collecting and analyzing signs of compromise – protecting the device user from potential threats.
How are Lookout’s four packages different from each other?
Lookout’s four packages meet all business needs: the Start package offers protection against application-, device-, and network-based risks, filters dangerous websites, and provides protection against phishing, while the Premium package already identifies risks posed by, for example, mobile applications, manages the vulnerabilities of mobile devices and mobile applications, proactively searches for threats, and provides protection against data leaks.
Are there any you particularly recommend using?
No industry is safe from cybercrime, but in 2022 the banking and healthcare sectors, energy and utilities, and companies in the transportation and manufacturing sectors were most affected2.
Regardless of the industry, with the spread of home office and hybrid forms of work, the use of private devices for work poses a new security risk, but also the fact that we use company devices much more boldly for private purposes. This is especially true for mobile phones, on which we store a lot of sensitive information, and they have also become primary work tools. Because of all this, it is extremely important to reduce the cyber-vulnerability of mobile phones, for which Lookout provides an excellent solution.
