A cyclist collapsed in the Valletta Catalonia race

A frightening incident occurred today (Monday) at the end of the first section of the Spanish bike race in Valletta Catalonia, when Italian rider Sonny Culverli, who reached second to the finish line of the first day of the race, collapsed shortly after the end of the ride.

Colverley received medical treatment on the spot behind a screen in order to maintain his privacy. In Spain it is reported that the cause of his collapse is heart problems, but there are still no exact details on the matter. The rider regained consciousness in an ambulance on his way to the hospital to continue receiving treatment.

The 31-year-old Italian holds the title of European Road Cycling Champion from the 2021 Trento Italian Championship. On top of that he also won the gold medal from the Paris Rifle race that year, and is considered one of the favorites to win the Valletta Catalonia as well.
