A date for the Citizenship Commission hearing on Ms. Reed’s citizenship has not yet been set: information is still being gathered

The⁤ Citizenship Affairs Commission is seeking additional information regarding Allison Reed’s compliance with the criteria established for‌ granting Lithuanian citizenship. The date ⁤of the next meeting has not been determined. A. ‌Reed has been invited‌ to attend.

In June,‌ ELTA ⁤reported that ‌the Citizenship Affairs Commission had begun considering ⁢whether‌ A. Reed should be granted citizenship as an exception. This consideration was later postponed to⁤ gather more information.

Following their review, the Citizenship Affairs Commission will ⁣submit‍ a recommendation‍ to the ‍country’s president, who‍ will ‌make the ⁣final decision on⁤ citizenship approval.‍ A. Reed submitted an official request for Lithuanian citizenship in February.

ELTA notes that this is not the first time A.⁢ Reed has requested⁤ exceptional citizenship from ⁣President Gitanas‍ Nausėdas. Previously, a lack‍ of a Lithuanian passport prevented her and her partner from participating in⁣ the 2022⁢ Winter Olympics in Beijing.

President⁤ Nausėda ‌has recently expressed a more positive view of⁤ granting A. Reed citizenship, citing the couple’s notable achievements in ‌figure skating. This ⁣stance differs⁣ from previous rejections of⁢ the skater’s citizenship requests.

At⁤ the European Figure‍ Skating Championship in Kaunas in January, A. Reed and her ⁤partner won bronze medals and set ‍personal records. This achievement parallels the 2006 championship, when Margarita Drobiazko and Povilas‌ Vanagas also won bronze.
