The Integrity Commission announced today, Wednesday, the issuance of a decision in person to imprison a former official in the Maysan Oil Company for embezzling sums of money.

A statement by the Media and Government Communication Office of the Commission received by the (INA) stated that “Maysan Criminal Court – First Body issued a decision to imprison the head of the Payments Division at Maysan Oil Company for a period of six years, based on the provisions of Article (316) of the Penal Code, in the case that it investigated and referred to the judiciary,” noting that “the convict embezzled the amounts of employee bonuses granted to the company’s members in 2017, and seized them without justification.”
He continued: “The Commission had previously announced in late January that it was able, in coordination with the Falcons Intelligence Cell, to arrest the accused, in implementation of the judicial arrest warrant issued against him,” noting that “the court gave the right to the affected party (Maysan Oil Company) to file a lawsuit before the civil courts, to demand compensation after the decision became final.”
He added, “The court issued a decision in absentia to sentence the accused to four years of hard labor and a fine of two million dinars against the mediator who received an amount of (700,000,000) dinars from the convicted person in charge of the payments department in the form of installments to be delivered through a second mediator, in exchange for not conducting a financial and accounting audit of the documents and papers in the possession of the convicted person in charge of the payments department.”
He pointed out that “the first panel in the Maysan Criminal Court issued the conviction decision, after reviewing the evidence and proof in the case, which it found sufficient and convincing to convict the accused, so it sentenced him to six years in prison in accordance with the provisions of Article (310/Second Part) of the Penal Code, in light of Article (308) thereof.”
