The European Parliament has agreed to send a mission to Catalonia to examine the linguistic model imposed by the Catalan government that prevents parents from schooling their children in Spanish, despite the countless rulings of the Supreme Court and the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia that condemn the Generalitat for failing to comply with the law.
The MEPs, up to twelve in total, will visit Spain on the days December 18, 19 and 20 after the association Assembly for a Bilingual School demanded to investigate the persecution of Spanish in the classrooms of Catalonia, following the complaint filed by some parents in 2017, which has since been followed by many others.
Five years after the first complaint occurred, the Petitions Committee of the European Parliament has given the green light to sending a delegation to meet affected parents; the Catalan government, the School Council and the High Inspection of Education, dependent on the central Government. Finally, he will hold a meeting with the Ombudsman and, at the end of the three days of work, he will offer his conclusions at a press conference.

Among the Spanish MEPs who will be part of the observers will be Dolors Montserrat and Rosa Estarásof the PP; Cristina Maestre of the PSOE; Jorge Buxadé from Vox or Love Pagazaurtundúa by Cs.
From the PP, Montserrat has highlighted that it is “inconceivable” that Catalan schools cannot teach at least 25% of classes in Spanish. “The EU has to know that the Catalan government refuses to comply with the law,” she said, demanding compliance with the law.
