Washington ∙ Washington State University scientists have discovered a new type of coronavirus in bats in Russia, belonging to the Sarbikovirus subfamily, which includes SARS-CoV-2, which causes Covid-19. Current vaccines are not effective against this virus, called Khost-2. They enter human cells using spike proteins. Another variant named Khosta-1 was also identified; They are not very dangerous to humans.
