Richard Carapaz competed in the seventh stage of the Tour de France, a 25.3-kilometer individual time trial, testing the skill, endurance and strategy of the Carchi native. Carapaz is the current national time trial champion, a title he proudly displayed while wearing the colors of Ecuador.
His bike also had a special design in honour of the national tricolour. The individual time trial is one of the most difficult events in cycling, where each rider starts in separate intervals, competing against the clock rather than directly against other riders. In this stage, the riders started according to their position in the general classification, starting from last to first. Richard Carapaz started his ride at 09:17, Ecuador time, with a technical ride of speed, accompanied by precision. The big winner of the day was Belgian Remco Evenepoel of the Soudal Quick-Step team, who completed the ride in an impressive time of 28:52 minutes. This victory further consolidated his reputation as one of the most promising riders in the peloton. Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates finished in second place, just 12 seconds behind Evenepoel. Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe’s Primož Roglič took third place, finishing 34 seconds behind the winner. Richard Carapaz clocked 31st in 30:35:90, 2:01 behind the stage winner. Individual results aside, the Tour de France’s overall standings remain competitive. Tadej Pogacar maintains the overall lead, with a total time of 27:16:23 hours after the first seven stages.
